A master class exploring visual narratives in lighting. Students explore a scene and realize it in a blackbox environment utilizing color, shape and texture with light to create different moods/feelings.

Introduction to Technical Theatre
Developed an introductory course for ages 9 - 15 introducing them to different backstage elements. This course combines lectures from industry professionals, field trips to working theatres and classroom projects to give students a tangible sense of the work involved to produce a show. The course culminated in students crewing an end of semester performance for the acting and dance classes.

Art of Visual Storytelling: A Pop-Up Experience -
A master class focusing on the art of storytelling through a visual medium. Students will take a piece of text, analyze it and create a visual piece that explores their point of view of the text.

Interior Architecture Design: LEDs and Design Lecture -
A master class on LEDs and their role in storefront theatre, performance art and installations. In addition to discussing potential creative uses of LEDs, students are taught about how to select LEDs for their needs and wire them correctly which ultimately led them to a project where they were able to incorporate LEDs into their own working fixture.

Intro to Lighting Design: Color Theory -
An introductory lecture about use of color in lighting design and the differences between additive and subtractive color mixing. During this lecture students participate in a lab that allows them to light objects and see how different materials respond to color.
Life After Graduation -
A master class on next steps after graduating with a theatre degree. This course touches on resume tips, job-hunting, filing taxes, and negotiating freelancing contracts.

This course will develop the student’s ability to see and discuss light in the context of theatrical design. Students will learn the basic process and techniques of the theatrical lighting designer. Students will learn to develop conceptual lighting design ideas based on text analysis, and will explore means of verbally and visually communicating those ideas from initial reading of the script to the final design.

Worked directly with undergrad students to teach them electric skills including electrical wiring, how to read paperwork, the basics of hang / focus, and troubleshooting non-functional equipment. Lighting/Sound/SFX Intern
The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre - Kalamazoo, MI
Duties included working with designers and community volunteers to produce 16 shows during our season and designing 8 of the 16 yearly productions. Also served as Master Electrician for the three performance spaces and responsible for organization and daily maintenance of fixtures. Aided in teaching volunteers of all ages as well as leading students (ages 9 - 18) in learning lighting, sound and special effects. Some responsibilities included, but were not limited to:

Lighting Intern
The RiverCenter for the Performing Arts - Columbus, GA
Worked closely with the lighting supervisor to help facilitate the use of the theatrical spaces for rentals. This included space setup/layout for orchestral performances, dance, theatre, public speaking, musical events, and touring productions. Some responsibilities included, but were not limited to:
Maintaining conventional lighting equipment, leading local electrics crews during load-ins and overhire events, interpreting lighting requirements in tech riders and implementing necessary changes to the rep plot to ease load-ins for touring shows.
